Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)

Trauma can leave lasting imprints on your mind and body, but you don’t have to carry that weight forever. Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy designed to help you process and release painful memories, allowing you to move forward with strength and clarity.

What is EMDR?

EMDR is a therapeutic approach that helps your brain reprocess traumatic memories in a way that reduces their emotional impact. By using bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements or tapping), EMDR facilitates the brain’s natural healing process, helping to reduce symptoms of:
• Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
• Anxiety and Panic Attacks
• Depression and Grief
• Phobias and Fears
• Low Self-Esteem and Negative Beliefs

How Does EMDR Work?

During an EMDR session, you will be guided through a series of eye movements while focusing on specific traumatic memories. This process helps your brain digest the experience and shift negative emotions and beliefs into more adaptive perspectives.

The 8 Phases of EMDR Therapy:

1. History Taking: Understanding your story and identifying target memories.

2. Preparation: Establishing safety and teaching coping skills.

3. Assessment: Identifying negative beliefs and desired positive outcomes.

4. Desensitisation: Using bilateral stimulation to reduce the emotional charge of the memory.

5. Installation: Strengthening positive beliefs.

6. Body Scan: Checking for residual physical tension or discomfort.

7. Closure: Returning to a state of calm and balance.

8. Re-evaluation: Assessing progress and planning next steps.

Why Choose EMDR?

EMDR is recognised by leading mental health organisations as a highly effective treatment for trauma. Unlike traditional talk therapy, it works directly with the brain’s natural processing systems, making healing faster and deeper.
